Presentation of ROSEWOOD4.0 SEE HUB best practices – video 5/5

Last video presentation of South-East Europe HUB best practices is National Forest Inventory which is developed by Slovenian Forestry Institute. National Forest Inventory provides extensive and in-depth survey of all Slovenian forests, including information about composition, condition, distribution and size of forests.

The application is of great importance for monitoring changes of forests through time, for developing suitable policy measures and for further support of sustainable management of forests. The basis for the inventory is a systematic sample of plots on a 4km x 4km grid. The selection of inventory plots is based on the use of lidar methodology and aerial images which enables elimination of plots that are not located in the forest and assessment of forests on inaccessible plots. The data is immediately digitalised and ready for processing. The application is also connected to a GPS device, which allows the precise determination of the sampling point.

An inventory was carried out in 2020 and 2021, and two more are planned 2022 and 2023, which will complete the first cycle of the National Forest Inventory (2020-2023).
