Project ROSEWOOD

The ROSEWOOD project – European network for sustainable use of raw wood materials financed under Horizon 2020 aims to facilitate the transfer of experience and innovative solutions in sustainable forestry, contributing to the sustainable use of raw wood materials in Europe.

By establishing four regional centers for the sustainable use of raw wood materials in North, Central, Eastern and Southern Europe, ROSEWOOD creates a network that links regions and stakeholders from the value chain of forestry and wood industry. Aim is to activate potentials of the wood sector and contribute to the sustainability of the European bio-economy. ROSEWOOD started implementation in February 2018 with the aim of setting up a network for the sustainable use of raw wood material. Four regional centers, launched within the project, will create a platform for regional and international exchange of experiences and innovative solutions. By linking stakeholders within the value chain in forestry and wood industry, ROSEWOOD will overcome existing lack of knowledge, encourage the takeover of new ideas and create prerequisites for economic partnerships between different stakeholders and regions.

Europe is rich in raw wood material; Forests not only cover the continent’s land surface (43%) but are also an important economic component in many regions. With the rise in demand for renewable energy sources, the importance of raw wood material for the European bio-economy is increasing.
“To support forest owners’ and public authorities’ forest management in an environmentally and economically sustainable way, ROSEWOOD project will analyze the sector’s current challenges and provide existing knowledge and innovative solutions for sustainable wood sector development. The aim is to engage all relevant stakeholders in the value chain of forestry and wood industry to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise among European regions.” said Dr. Anthony Salingre, ROSEWOOD project coordinator.

During two-year duration of the ROSEWOOD project, partners will first analyze the needs and weaknesses of the sector at the region level and identify an appropriate innovative solutions. The most successful examples will be presented on the ROSEWOOD web site, on workshops and trainings that will be organized at regional centers as well as at the European level to ensure the transfer of examples of best practices.

The ROSEWOOD project involves 15 partners who have joined forces to enhance sustainable and competitive forest management in Europe.
Countries: Austria, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland

Project duration: 02/2018 – 02/2020
Budget: EUR 1.5 million
