SLAVONSKI BROD, 26.09.2019. – 10th Southeast Europe Sawmill Congress was organized by Croatian Wood Cluster, the Center for Development and Investment and Wood & Furniture, under the HIGH auspices of the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia, the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Crafts, the Croatian Parliament, the City of Slavonski Brod and Brod – Posavina County.
Competence Centre participated in the framework of ROSEWOOD project (European network of Regions On SustainablE WOOD mobilisation) and its networking and clustering activities.
Southeast Europe Sawmill Congress is the central gathering of sawmill industry representatives from Croatia, BiH, Slovenia, Serbia and other surrounding countries. The Congress is also recognized on the European level and faces the increasing number of foreign participants, especially stakeholders from Austria, Germany, Italy and Scandinavian countries(Sweden).
Thematic focus of this year’s Congress was the mobilization of additional quantities of raw materials, consumption of EU funds and assurance of the sectors’ competitiveness by implementing the innovation and technological accomplishments in industry. The health of the forests (declared by the stakeholders as catastrophic), the upcoming recession in Europe and its effects on the wood processing sector were also discussed. The Congress participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with new wood energy plants dryers and the production of solid oak furniture.
Competence Centr Director, Ivan Ambroš PhD, participated in the congress as a delegate of the Vukovar – Srijem County and as a participant in a panel discussion on the topic – impact of global market trends on the future of sawmills in Southeast Europe countries. He emphasized the importance of stakeholders’ collaboration within the value chain of forestry and wood industry. He presented activities related to the implementation of the infrastructure project Wood Technology Centre – Slavonian Oak and highlighted the importance of the Competence Centre for connecting companies with science.
Panel discussion on new technologies investments was participated by the president of the Slavonian Oak Wood Cluster and director of Spačva Ltd, Josip Faletar PhD. He emphasized the importance of investing in new technologies to raise the level of business competitiveness, importance of wood residues utilization and development of higher value – added products.
